Siesta Key Beach at a glance

Siesta Key Beach, also called Siesta Beach, is the main public beach on Siesta Key. The park is at 948 Beach Road, next to the village. Its sand is almost pure quartz, 99 percent or more, which is why it is so fine and pale. The beach is wide and flat, with views across the Gulf of Mexico.

In 2026, U.S. News ranked it number 1 on its U.S. beach list. In 2025, Tripadvisor placed it first in the USA and fourth in the world. Rankings change from year to year, so treat them as a guide, not a promise. If you want a break from the sand, the same day can include a Siesta Key boat tour to look for dolphins.

Siesta Key parking

The main parking lot at Siesta Beach is free. It is open every day from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. and holds about 950 cars. Overnight parking is not allowed on county beach lots, so do not plan to leave a car there after closing time. Private lots near the beach and in the village are separate and have their own rules and prices.

  • Busy days: weekends and holidays can fill the lot. Come in the morning or late in the afternoon.
  • Without a car: the free island trolley, route 77, stops at Siesta Beach and the village daily from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. See getting to Siesta Key.
  • After dark: the wet sand at the water's edge is open around the clock. Access points 3, 3B, 10, 11 and 13 give walking access but have no parking.

Our pick: sunset by e-bike

Our take: this e-bike tour has Siesta Beach on its route and is timed for sunset, so you see the beach from the saddle.

Lifeguards and swimming

Lifeguards are on duty every day of the year from 10 a.m. The shift ends at about 4:45 or 5 p.m., so plan to be out of the water by 4:45 p.m. and do not rely on a lifeguard after that. The beach is also not guarded around the clock.

Check the beach flags before you swim. Double red flags mean the water is closed to swimming. A purple flag warns of possibly dangerous marine life. Shallow water does not mean safe water, so keep children within arm's reach.

Beach rules

  • Alcohol: allowed if you are of legal drinking age.
  • Glass: glass containers are not allowed.
  • Dogs: only service animals are allowed, not pets.
  • Wheelchairs: free beach wheelchairs can be borrowed at the main pavilion after filling in a form. They are not always available. A mat runs 454 ft (about 138 m) toward the water.

Rules on other beaches differ. Do not assume the same alcohol rule applies on Anna Maria Island.

Sea turtles and the beach at night

Sea turtles nest in southwest Florida from 1 May to 31 October. Artificial light can confuse nesting females and hatchlings, and objects on the sand block their way. After dark, keep lights off or shielded, take chairs and gear home, fill any holes you dig, and never touch nests or animals.

If you see a sea turtle on the beach or in the water, stay at least 50 yards (about 45.7 m) away. That is the national recommendation for marine turtles. Sunset is a good time to be on the sand. The Sunday drum circle happens at the same beach, south of the main pavilion.
